Amazon River drought...
16th December 2013
Over the past few years the amazon river has been increasingly becoming 'low' and as well as being life threatening for fish, it could be a real problem for us humans if it continues!
In 2010 the Amazon River was having its worse year yet as was proclaimed the "Greatest Amazon River Disaster" in history.
The same was said during 2005.
What this means is that rather than being a 'CO2 Sink' (because the rainforest absorbs CO2 and outputs O2) the lack of water allows more plants to died thus reducing the Amazon's carbon sink effect. Potentially even becoming a source of CO2 from any plants that burn.
Lets hope this trend (possibly from climate change) does indeed stop or change in some way to ensure the well being of humans and fish alike!
